When we last left Michael, he was standing on Smuggler's Ridge, overlooking the Tusken Valley, and he witnessed something from the heavens. A light, brighter than the rising suns, flew across the sky. Was it a shooting star, or a meteor (if so, it was probably headed for Russia). Yet then he suddenly realized what it was, and he knew, in that moment, it was worse than any of those things.
Now you'll know what it is too.
Chapter 5 picks up right where we left off and kicks off the main plot of the novel. If the first four chapters were the Ordinary World of the Hero's Journey, chapter 5 has the beginnings of the Call to Adventure—the time when Michael will be drawn into a greater story, beyond just worrying about relationships and petty disputes in an Anchorhead cantina.
