The Old Republic era encompasses the thousands of years between the foundation of the Galactic Republic in 25,000 BBY and the Ruusan Reformations in 1,000 BBY. The Chronicles of the Great War series is set to take place in this era, as is parts of My Father's Dreams.

- Xendor is exiled from the Order of the Jedi Bendu—later said to be the Jedi Order—for practicing the dark side of the Force.[3]
- Xendor discovers the Kaiburr crystal in the Unknown Regions.[3]

- Decades later, Xendor organizes the Legions of Lettow and launches an assault against the Jedi Bendu on Coruscant. Xendor and his forces are defeated.[3]
- One of Xendor's surviving minions takes the late Dark Jedi's Kaiburr crystal to Utapau, where it is adopted by the Gungan people as part of their religion.[3] Xendor's manifesto is taken by another surviving legionarre to Conscio in the Outer Rim Territories.[4]

- Hosk Station is constructed on the surface of the largest moon of Kalarba.[2]
- The Tionese War breaks out between the Republic and the Honorable Union of Desevro & Tion.[2]

- The Templars of Sha are founded.[2]

- The University of Coruscant is founded by Borz'Math'oh and Supreme Chancellor Fillorean.[2]
- The Jedi Bendu build an early version of the lightsaber.[2]

- The Jedi Bendu Schism occurs, breaking the Order of the Jedi Bendu into the Jedi Order and the Bendu Order; the later settled on Kal'Shabbol in the Unknown Regions, while the Jedi became the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.[2]
- Zios Malachor becomes the first High Priest of the Bendu Order.[3]
- The Jedi Bendu Schism is covered up by the Republic and ultimately forgotten.[2]
- The Hutts take over the planet Evocar and rename it Nal Hutta.[2]

- The Herglic Trade Empire collapses.[2]
- The Herglic remnants come into contact with the Human colonists in the nearby Tapani sector, ultimately joining the Galactic Republic.[2]

- Lightsabers cease to require backpack generators, becoming completely hand-held.[2]

- The Alsakan Union invades and takes control of Coruscant from the Republic, beginning the Alsakan Crisis.[2]
- Jedi Grand Master Banik Kelrada convinces the Alsakan Vicar Lharra to end the war, but she is killed by her own advisers in order to continue the war effort. The Alsakans implicated Kelrada in the assassination.[2]
- The Alsakans launch attacks against Republic forces on Ruan, Bessimir, and Metellos.[2]
- A schism in the Jedi Order results in the creation of the Ospion Guardians, a rogue group of Jedi who left the Order following a disastrous Jedi conclave.[2]
- The Republic re-claims Coruscant from the Alsakan Union.[2]
- Supreme Chancellor Relana Isolde Tanoor is assassinated by an unknown assassin during a Galactic Senate session.[2]
- 12,999 BBY
- The Battle of Alsakan marks the end of the Alsakan Crisis; the Republic emerges victorious from the battle, though it is bittersweet as the planet Alsakan is devastated when the Alsakan military leaders crash the orbiting ring city Xenvaer onto the surface.[5]
- Alsakan refugees who survive the destruction of Xenvaer scatter throughout the galaxy. Some assimilated into the Galactic Republic, whereas others join together in groups such as the Alsakan Restoration Movement.[5]
