Kane Starkiller was the Commander of the Guardians of Lettow in approximately 2 BBY. This made him the de facto apprentice of Darth Vader. Starkiller became jealous once Vader attempted to convince Princess Leia Organa to become his secret apprentice once she began to recognize her darker side, as being the Dark Commander of the Lettow put Starkiller in line to be Darth Vader’s apprentice if something were to happen to the Emperor.[1]

Kane Starkiller was originally created by Gregg Tasoulas for his Alternate Star Wars Trilogy. When Brandon Rhea began working on his own stories, Tasoulas gave him permission to use the basics of his version of Starkiller in the Alternative Star Wars Saga. The character in both alternate universe stories was based on a character of the same name in the original drafts of George Lucas’ Star Wars Saga who appeared for the first time in the rough draft of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.[1]
In the first draft of The Star Wars, Starkiller became known as Akira Valor. After the second draft was written, he became simply known as “The Starkiller”, the father of Luke Starkiller. “The Starkiller” survived to the end of that version where he was a cyborg, but he was deleted in the following draft and replaced by a “crazy old wizard” encountered on the road. However, the idea that Luke, who then became known as Luke Skywalker, had a father who was a cyborg was retained and incorporated into the story of Darth Vader.[1]
The Force Unleashed[]
Some readers have remarked that Rhea’s using of the name “Starkiller” and elements such as being Vader’s de facto apprentice are unoriginal, stating that he “ripped it off” from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. However, Rhea offered proof that he had created the name and the plot elements prior to the announcement of The Force Unleashed.[1]
