"By coming into this mountain and retrieving this object, you have shown to me that you are, at the least, interested in a greater picture than the one you are currently painting with your family."
Darth Traya[src]

Epin Lanmaw was a male Human nerf herder on the planet Alderaan during the reign of the Galactic Empire. In 7 BBY, he became friends with Leia Organa, the Princess of Alderaan, despite their different economic and societal classes. They grew to have romantic feelings for one another.

Around the same time, Lanmaw began having dreams of a mysterious woman who told him to go to the Ophuchi Mountains. When he finally went into the mountains, he discovered that the woman in his dreams was Darth Traya, a Dark Lady of the Sith who had died thousands of years earlier.

Biography[]

Early life[]

"When the kriff are you gonna be a man and stand up for yourself, boy?"
Sadvo Lanmaw insults his son[src]

Epin Lanmaw was born on Alderaan in 19 BBY to Sadvo and Lania Lanmaw, two former Jedi Padawans expelled from the Jedi Order for practicing the dark side of the Force. Lanmaw had a twin sister, Rena Lanmaw, and neither he nor his sister were taught the powers of the Force by their parents.[1]

As a child, Lanmaw grew up on his family’s farm outside Aldera, the planet’s capital city, where they herded nerfs and sold the animals’ hides to Aldera Palace and other buyers in the area. Sadvo often physically beat his son, as he believed that Epin never acted like a man. Lanmaw was often tormented by the Sons of Alderaan, a group of upper class boys, as well, and they would demean him and beat him up for being of a lower class. These incidents led to more physical abuse from his father, who used as an excuse for why his son needed to act like a man and defend himself.[1]

On occasion, Lanmaw traveled to Aldera Palace with his mother to deliver nerf goods. As a young boy, he met Leia Organa, the Princess of Alderaan, and her adoptive sister, Winter Celchu. Although they did not spend much time together, Lanmaw developed romantic feelings for the princess, but he was too afraid to tell her about it.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Epin Lanmaw was created by Wayne Lipman III and is the main character in Lipman's novel Star Wars: The Alderaan Affair.[1] Prior to becoming part of the Alternative Star Wars Saga, Lipman had already established Lanmaw as a character. Like in The Alderaan Affair, Lanmaw was a nerf farmer with his father, and he trained in the ways of the Force using a holocron of Darth Traya, a central character in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Lanmaw would also become friends with Leia Organa before becoming part of a secret order called the Emperor's Reach, which was led by Galactic Emperor Palpatine. The contents of this storyline have now been cut, although some elements have become part of The Alderaan Affair.[3]

On September 10, 2008, after Lipman joined the Alternative Saga, Lipman requested permission from fellow author Brandon Rhea to expand upon the story of Leia Organa in the article about her on Star Wars Fanon, the Star Wars fan fiction wiki.[4] Rhea preferred only sourced information,[5] so Lipman decided to write a short story in order to source information about Organa. This short story eventually became The Alderaan Affair, in which Lanmaw is the central character.[6]

A second novel featuring Lanmaw is also being planned. The novel, titled Veil of Darkness, will be written by Lipman and is planned for a release sometime after the completion of The Alderaan Affair.[7]
