Darth Zannah, known as Rain while a child, was a female Human Sith Lord who served as the Dark Lord of the Sith in Darth Bane's Order of the Sith Lords. She fought for the Jedi Army of Light during the New Sith Wars, and she survived the thought bomb unleashed by the Brotherhood of Darkness. She was discovered by Bane, the sole surviving Sith Lord, who took her as his Sith apprentice.
Bane and Zannah hid from the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order, using the cover of the near-destruction of the Sith on Ruusan to their advantage. Zannah studied under Bane extensively, including the study of Sith magic. Her apprenticeship also saw her carry out missions to incite anarchy and insurrection amongst anti-Republic factions, including the influencing of a failed assassination attempt on former Supreme Chancellor Tarsus Valorum. She was later tasked with infiltrating the Jedi Temple on Coruscant to gain information on parasites that had infected Darth Bane. After completing the mission, she encountered a group of pursuing Jedi, whom she confronted along with Bane. Her master was weakened and nearly killed, and the Jedi were left believing that they had killed the last of the Sith Lords.
With their existence hidden to the Jedi Order, Bane and Zannah continued to train with one another. Bane expected Zannah to challenge him for the title of Dark Lord, as his Rule of Two dictated, and, when she did not, Bane came to believe she lacked the initative to become master of the Sith. Unknown to Bane, however, Zannah had been plotting Bane's death, and took on Set Harth as her own apprentice. Zannah attempted to challenge Bane for Dark Lord, but he had been captured on Doan. After she and Bane fleed the prison where he was being held, Bane, who had taken Darth Cognus as his apprentice, was finally challenged by Zannah. He was injured and attempted to transfer his life essence into her body, but Zannah defeated him. Zannah took on Cognus as her apprentice and continued to uphold the Rule of Two and the legacy of Darth Bane.
